Biography
Ellie M. Blake lives in London. She loves taking photographs of nature and writing stories. Her other interests include travel, cooking and healthy happy living. She has a background in education, including tutoring children for 11 years, volunteering with an East London after-school care program for a charity and working at Kumon, which does Maths & Reading Programs. She also tutors a Year Ten student in English for a charity which supports students from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities. When Ellie was 16 years old, she started University. Her qualifications are in law, commerce and arts, with an MA in English literature at King's College London.
Her first book, Dilly Dally Sally, is a children's story about a lost duckling. It's inspired by the real wildlife of Regent's Canal and Limehouse Basin. It's now available on Amazon as an electronic book and paperback. Her second book, This Silly Bench, is about a crow who was friends with an Egyptian goose. It's free to download on Kobo, and can be bought as a paperback or electronic on Amazon.
As a toddler, Ellie would wake up and read books in her cot. Take a look at some of her favourite children's picture books. After school, she would go to her local library. Her weekends were all about books. Now, she's following her dream of creating stories.
Ellie contributes to a publication by writers for writers called Write On!
'High on Macca Quacker Mountain,' 'High on Macca Quacker Mountain (Part 2),''The Duchess,' 'Leaves & Snow' and 'Lily & Rose' were featured in the webzine Write On! In Write On! Issue 11, you can read E.M. Blake's interview with children's author Catherine Coe. An extended piece with Catherine and her mentee about change and adventure was also included online as a feature piece. She also has a Write On! feature article 'How Instagram Helped Me Grow As A Writer,' published in November 2022. An abridged version was also included on the Writer's & Artist's blog.
In 2023 she learned about video making. You can find her posting on TikTok and YouTube. She's had success with a TikTok video which reached over 440,600 views and in excess of 16,000 likes. It touched people who commented about how it made them cry and think about humanity. Her Freddie Mercury Sotheby’s exhibition videos series on YouTube reached 20,000 views.
Another project Ellie is working on is a memoir / technology / self-help book which is expected to be available in 2024.
Ellie designs with Red Bubble, where she creates nature inspired stationery, clothes and home ware. The designs relate to stories and positivity. See a sample on the Designs page. Ellie also spends time in the kitchen, which you can read about here.
Ellie has written and edited documents for businesses. She has interviewed and written about experts in the US, Europe and Asia. Her first love is fiction and that is where she focuses most of her time these days, though she is currently working on a non-fiction book.
